Beagle might have auto- immune disorder?

My 5 year old beagle has had off/on hot pots for the past 2 years. We have tried oatmeal and anti- itch shampoos, changing her diet to Purina LA (which is suppossed to help if she has a food allergy) and medicating the spots with anti-biotics. It seemed ok for a while, but now I noticed that some parts of her body she has gnawwed at so badly that she's breaking the skin. I desperatly want an answer to this continuing problem. We love her so much and want her to have a better quality of life, with no itching! Could this be some kind of disorder other than food allergies ? Please help.

Beagle might have auto- immune disorder?
could be inhalant allergies,, or she could be allergic to grasses etc. you should call her breeder and find out about allergy history in this line... purina is not a good food choice,,,, you want a holistic blend of dry kibble with no byproducts, no corn, no wheat.. could also be a form of mange, flea bite dermatitis etc. take your dog to vet and request a skin scraping,,, this should be able to tell you what the heck your poor pup has.. good luck..
Reply:She might just be stressed. I had a dobe who when my parents got divorced he would lick and chew his paws till they bleed, also when he went into kennels he would do the same. It just happened all of a sudden and then it became a habbit! Try distracting her with treats or to play a game. Can you think back 2years if anythink stressfulll happened? Dogs can pick up allot. Then it becomes a learnt behaviour which is hard to break.

I would check with your vet he can do bloods.

Hope this helps and i hope she gets better soon!

Best wishes Kim
Reply:It can be a few things. You should have her see a animal dermatologist.
