How to deal with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?

I was raped a year ago and since I've been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. I have trouble falling asleep at night and I wake up in the middle of the night very upset and scared. I'm constantly tired from lack of sleep which is caused by horrible nightmares. I have vivid images in my head of it happening that I cant really control. And some words will set me off such as rape or fiji (the men were from there) and I have an intense fear of brown men unless I know them well.

Its slowly getting better but its been over a year now and its still horrible, I try to force myself to move on by telling myself they are winning if I let it bother me, but thats only skin deep. I havent told any family memebers about it and I'm only 17 so without them knowing professional help is out of the question. I also recently started going out with a guy and sometimes little things he does scare me and I cant tell him that without explaining why.

I sometimes have panic attacks and..........

How to deal with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?
okay well, i'm 20 and this also happened to me? i'm in the same exact boat as you. umm, what kind of things trigger you. touching? if it is that's normal. sometimes i don't like it when friends touch me.

i've read stuff and it says you never really get over it. i was also sexually abused when i was younger and i'm not over it. i still get set off and feel unsafe and get dreams but with time you get over some things. they're just not as strong. i think it will be like that...i hope so

but from expereince it will take years and therapy. i'm starting treatment now. maybe you can tell your parent's. MAYBE. my parents don't know because i know them they won't be supportive. maybe your parents are different? if you feel like they will be supportive do it. if not, then don't. it can be pretty damaging when they're like that. you should tell close friends but be careful some friends might not take it well. some of my friends, who i don't talk to anymore, didn't. but other friends will. they are your real friends. how long have you and your boyfriend been together? you could tell him. if he really cares for you he'll stand by you.

as for treatment you can look online. i'm not sure but can't you talk to a therapist. you can try to find a guardian or something. tell a close teacher? and aunt? older cousin? sibling? yes, i remember i signed a paper needing the sig of my guardian if i wasn't old enough.

don't try to take it all away with getting high. it doesn't help, i haven't done that but like all things like that it just pushes it away but it's still there and as heavy as it always was. you need to deal with it eventually when you are ready.

do what you want. but try to deal with it. it NEEDS to be dealt with

when you have panic attacks try to breathe. stay away from the triggers as soon as you can. for a while i guess.

please, just talk to someone you trust. good luck! God Bless...
Reply:you are dealing with a lot of depression... If you go and find a therapist uhh nvm LOL

Maybe you should just trust in your mind and soul and try to forget... go find something that will make you forget
Reply:you need to talk to your parents and tell them so you can get some professional help.
Reply:Oh my gosh girl! I'm so sorry that happened. You really should have went to the police about that. I dont know if its too late or not. Im no specialist but i must say don't try self medication with those illegal drugs. Trust me that will just make your life a whole lot worse. I know this is not what you want to hear but i would say that you should tell someone you are really close to and that you can trust. Also you should definitely seek professional help. ptsd is a serious psychological disorder. I know it will take lots of courage to do all this but im pretty sure nothing else will help. Good luck and the best of wishes.
Reply:Find a real Psychiatrist and they may provide counseling in the direction to go.
Reply:YOU MUST FIND SOMEONE TO TALK TOO,PLEASE DON'T KEEP THIS TO YOUSELF,THE WOUND CAN GET DEEPER AND DEEPER,AS ACHILD SOMETHING HAPPENED TO ME AND I SUFFER FROM THE SAME AND OTHER MENTAL ISSUES BUT I AM ON MEDS IF YOU CAN FIND A MENTAL HEALTH PERSON TO TALK TO,FOR THEY MUST KEEP THIS PRIVATE AND TELL NO ONE OR MAYBE A TEEN HOTLINE BUT TALK TO SOMEONE SOON.
Reply:It's not at all strange that you're still upset, scared and confused a year later! What you went through is very tranmatic! and it wasn't your fault!!!

you need to talk about this to someone. If you can't tell your parents, talk to a relative, the school counselor, or even look for an online support group. But you should really tell your parents. Keeping this in isn't good for your health.
Reply:Perhaps if you tell them you are having issues with depression and would like to seek counseling? You needn't tell them about your experience if you really don't want to-- and what is between you and your therapist will stay there. Maybe you can talk to a counselor at school about a next step. I think you need to work this through. This kind of emotional stress is serious and dealing with it now is going to help you live the rest of your life in peace. Be good to yourself instead of putting more demands on yourself for example- 'they are winning if I let it bother me'. There is no longer a struggle with 'them' . Your struggle now is with dealing with these feelings, be kind to yourself! Something of this magnitude bothers you because it bothers you- not cause you are 'letting' it. Consider finding a way to get treatment.- that's the best way to get the right tools to get past this is an effective, healthy way.
Reply:I am a middle aged woman and I had a similar thing happen to me when I was young. I also tried to self-medicate with drugs. It didn't really help, it just made my life duller.

A few years ago another tramatic situation happened to me that was totally unrelated to my childhood experience. It triggered something in me. I've been dealing with PTSD ever since.

I have a great therapist and psychiatrist now and things have gotten better.

I am so sorry that you are going through what I can only equate to a horrible nightmare.

Please tell your parents, they CAN handle it. The sooner you get help the better.

I would hate to see you still suffering years from now.
Reply:g please do not medicate yourself . Please self medication is not a good thing. When help is needed please seek professional help . I know that this is hard to do because it costs money to get help the system sucks.
Reply:Therapy and medication combined have both worked best for me. I hope you can find a good therapist and Psychiatrists very soon. Marijuana believe it or not will only cause more anxiety when trying to withdraw so it can be worse to use in the long run. I hope you are feeling better soon and I am very sorry you have gone through all this~
Reply:go to a counsler i cant belaive how young u r and u r using drugs u need real help girl.

Do i have an eating disorder?

I know that i am not skin and bones but i am starting to wonder. Everything i eat i am counting calories. When i am home alone i only eat about 400 calories aday and if that. I measure out what i eat and what i do eat i feel gulity. I hate my body and i always see flaws with it. When people are around i try to eat normally but the guilt that comes over me is terrible. I try not to show it but my mind is constantly thinking about food and how to perfect my body. I am 5'9 and weigh 135. I want to be down to 110. Being this big makes me freak out. Do you think i have an eating disorder?

Do i have an eating disorder?
Yes, you most certainly do. Perhaps it is not at an advanced stage yet -- you haven't lost a ton of weight -- but you are on the road.

Seek help soon, my friend.
Reply:no ,you do not have an eating disorder, you have a mental illness.
Reply:I do think it is a big possibility you have a eating disorder. You need to learn how to love your body the way it is. Food is a great part of life and something you should enjoy. You should call up a therapist or someone that can help you get through this. Best of luck to you!
Reply:no but u seem a little obsessed. be careful
Reply:No, its a disease!
Reply:well you have something going on that you need to get help with, whether its body image, which could lead to a serious eating disorder. So I think you need to talk to someone about this, its not necessarily a eating disorder now, but if you don't get help, it could definatly end up being one.
Reply:yes i do. 400 calories! ur suppose to take up to at least 1800 and sometime 2000 a day. ur weight if perfect! actally i think ur under weight. if u are uncomtuble with ur body and think ur flabby....work out in the gym and go on a body builder diet.....muscle gets all the gyms....just dont gain to much or youll scare them away....trust me ur probly rly skinny...SO DONT WORRY!!!!!!
Reply:YES I DO!!!!!!! YOU DO NOT NEED TO EAT SO FEW CALORIES PER DAY IN ORDER TO LOOSE WEIGHT . THIS IS SOOOOOOOO UNHEALTHY FOR YOU . YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR OWN HEALTH AT RISK FOR OTHER SERIOUS PROBLEMS
Reply:yes you have anorexia nervosia. i used to have it too. get help and quick before you do more damage to yourself. 400 calories is nowere near what you should be eating. your body burns about 1200 even if all you did was stay in bed all day. eat!
Reply:Of course not! You are perfectly fine. If you want to achieve this target weight, I suggest cutting your calories even further! =D

Also, have you ever been on a pro-ed website? Link below, I hope it will inspire you to continue losing weight!
Reply:OH Yea, you should get help before you become malnourished. Your muscle will waste away without nourishment, and dont forget, your heart is a muscle. 400 cal. a day is not enough to sustain life. GET HELP before you do permanent damage.
Reply:You should weigh that much because your tall. You should NOT weigh 110. Girls who are 5'4 or 5'5 should weigh 110. I'm 5'7 and weigh 120 and I'm NOT fat at all. so don't worry about it its your height and if you got to 110 you'd look gross and lose your *** and boobs
Reply:i wanna get down to 105....
Reply:i am almost the same height and weight i tried the same thing in the the end none of that works just try not to count calories its going to kill your mind
Reply:Seeing that you are that tall, your wieght is fine. At certains hieghts you need to be at least a certain wieght. Your wieght and hieght is fine. But if you think you are fat, I would probably say do excercise eat as healthy as you can. Junk food tends to make people overwieght. My friend told me that she heard that you can lose wieght by takeing how much you wiegh and add a zero at the end and that is how much calories you eat a day. since you are 135 then you would eat 1350 calories a day. I don't think that you are fat. if you have a belly that sticks out it could be water. I do know that healthy food is often very good to help stay skinny. I wouldn't take diet pills becuz dieat pills are said to make you so you can never have kids.
Reply:It sounds like you most definitely DO have a problem! I am 5'7" and at one time weighed just 130 and was pure skin and bones, so I can only imagine how frail and sickly you look! Being that thin is NOT healthy! You know you have a problem, now get help before you start having problems with major organs! Some day you'll be glad you got help, right now it sounds like you're afraid to get help because your afraid they'll take your power away. The power that will help you starve yourself! Seek help NOW!

My friend has an eating disorder?

my friend is anerexic and im rlly worried about her.the other day she only ate 3 chips ALL DAY and today she only ate 2 small cookies.her mom is even sending her to a shrink.but she wont even admit that she has an eating disorder.she is 5 ft 4 tall and she is rlly into sports and she used to be muscular but now idk.over the summer she was wearing a bikini and i could see her ribs through her skin.she is scaring me. today we walked to have lunch and her mom asked me to make sure she ate something and if she wouldnt to force her to eat a carrot or sumthin and she wouldnt eat ANYTHING and i felt bad cause her mom relied on me and i failed.then for dinner we had ravioli.she didnt eat any of it obviously.she had bball practice afterbut her mom wouldnt let her go because she wouldnt eat any ravioli.she was crying and i felt rlly bad. but there was nothing i could do.she told me that she lost 16 lbs and shes PROUD OF IT! her goal is 95 lbs.when she was healthy, she was 105 lbs and thin.HELP!

My friend has an eating disorder?
it is so sad how someone can just lose themselves! she needs help and she also needs food, when your 5 ft 4 you should NOT be aiming for 95lbs, waaaaaayyyyy too light! there is NOTHING to be proud of about being under weight, too many people have lost their life's that way! poor thing, she really NEEDS to go to therapy or something, i am glad that her mother is concerned about her and she is doing the right thing, it is not your fault if she refuses to eat, she needs support and help to realize what is going on.

good luck and god bless!♥
Reply:I feel bad for your friend but her mom has to send her away to one of those clinic that they have for people with eating disorders.
Reply:I think she would benefit from some inpatient help too if her therapist isn't helping her. You sound like a good friend but she isn't really opening up about things.

It would help if ur friend accompanied her mum - but u can't force her. Just by being there for ur friend u r doing something, so well done...

Skin is blue in the shoulders and upper arms, feeling fine otherwise it's been 2 days?

was exposed to mold a week and a half ago and that evening felt achy and crappy headache next day but after that fine. Could this been some blood disorder? Have no previous problems or medications. Also have been lifting light weights for a week for my rotator cuff cause that often bothers otherwise feel fine? Should I wait for a few more days to go see a dr. ? Skin is also fine no rash etc. Just overall looks blue.

Skin is blue in the shoulders and upper arms, feeling fine otherwise it's been 2 days?
I think you should go to the doctor, it seem you are having circulation problems! :S
Reply:Umm...my son asked me the same thing a couple of weeks ago. He freaked out and came running to me. He wore a new shirt and the dye in the shirt dyed his skin. (Just a thought)
Reply:I think you need to see your doctor as soon as you can. Try to get in today.

Beagle might have auto- immune disorder?

My 5 year old beagle has had off/on hot pots for the past 2 years. We have tried oatmeal and anti- itch shampoos, changing her diet to Purina LA (which is suppossed to help if she has a food allergy) and medicating the spots with anti-biotics. It seemed ok for a while, but now I noticed that some parts of her body she has gnawwed at so badly that she's breaking the skin. I desperatly want an answer to this continuing problem. We love her so much and want her to have a better quality of life, with no itching! Could this be some kind of disorder other than food allergies ? Please help.

Beagle might have auto- immune disorder?
could be inhalant allergies,, or she could be allergic to grasses etc. you should call her breeder and find out about allergy history in this line... purina is not a good food choice,,,, you want a holistic blend of dry kibble with no byproducts, no corn, no wheat.. could also be a form of mange, flea bite dermatitis etc. take your dog to vet and request a skin scraping,,, this should be able to tell you what the heck your poor pup has.. good luck..
Reply:She might just be stressed. I had a dobe who when my parents got divorced he would lick and chew his paws till they bleed, also when he went into kennels he would do the same. It just happened all of a sudden and then it became a habbit! Try distracting her with treats or to play a game. Can you think back 2years if anythink stressfulll happened? Dogs can pick up allot. Then it becomes a learnt behaviour which is hard to break.

I would check with your vet he can do bloods.

Hope this helps and i hope she gets better soon!

Best wishes Kim
Reply:It can be a few things. You should have her see a animal dermatologist.

What is social anxiety disorder?

I've often wondered if I have social anxiety disorder.

I do NOT like to talk to people I don't know, and will actually be rude so people will not talk to me.

I feel like I want to jump out of my skin when I am with a group of people.

At work, I am fine, this is just outside of work in normal social situations.

I don't know what is wrong with me, but now that I have children and don't relate well with the other parents, I can honestly look and see "hey...I may have a problem here".

Any ideas?

What is social anxiety disorder?
You get anxious when you are around people. It is social anxiety disorder. You should seek help to get medicine for it. At work you are fine because you are use to going to work and use to the people you work with....its routine. In normal social situations you feel uneasy because its different to you...it will never be the same.
Reply:Seek a counselor, internet diagnoses are impossible.

*WOW that above advise slapped a lable on you as fast as she could, then suggested medicine for something she knows nothing about. Please seek a professional.
Reply:This does sound pretty much like classic SAD. Do you also avoid eye contact? How about making phone calls or even answering the phone? Those can also be traits.

For many people, SAD affects them largely among people whose opinions of them really matter--in social situations far more than at work. They care more about what fellow students think than their professors, for instance.

It responds pretty well to self-medication--a single drink can work wonders--but that doesn't really address the underlying issues. A psychologist can help with that, as well as with deconditioning exercises which can make it easier to function. Sometimes they prescribe a mild antidepressant during that period while you learn that you can too talk to people.
Reply:I used to have major troubles with this when I was younger. Especially around a certain class or group of people.

What I found worked for me is when I had to go somewhere new. ( If possible) I'd take along someone I knew well that understood me. Especially if they knew the group or some of the people as well. or If I didnt know any of them I'd call some one on the list of people I was to meet to try to get to know them a bit and feel some sort of common grounds with them. So when I met them it wasnt as terrifying to me .

About other parents. I often met the kids first because my children knew them from school. So i kind of had an idea of what kind of home they came from.

I am the kind of parent that feels the need to know what my kids' friends are like and feel I need to meet the parents of those kids so I have some idea of what kind of people my kids associate with.

Look for one common interests you might have with one other parent. Like if your kids are small and they like a certain cartoon or show and have the figures or toys you can ask them about them. or If your kids do activities in school then you can seek out parents of others kids in those groups.

I used to run a support group here for people with the same problem as me. I found I was ok to speak if I was sitting down. but if I had to stand in front of them my palms would get all sweaty, and I'd begin to shake, I'd secretly hope they couldnt tell that I was. I still have a fear of public speaking. However I'm told that no one knows at all. It doesnt show when I'm there doing the speaking or whatever. Often we perceive ourselves as coming across to others the way we feel inside . When really it doesnt show.

so slowly broaden your spaces. by picking things you feel comfortable with. Like maybe inviting a co workers family over for dinner, or go out with the families instead. As if you know one person ( your co worker) then you have some idea what their families could be like and that person is a buffer for you while getting to know who they live with.

Also if you have a dog and can take him / her for a walk in the park etc, you can talk to people you see that also have dogs. slowly build yourself up like that. without knowing it, some of those feelings will calm down some. Then if you see those people out again you can smile at them and say a brief hello. and so on.

There are other ways I learned to fight my fears of this kind of thing. As I'm a person that likes to be around people. However I do have fears of meeting certain kinds of people. Especially if I hear things about them before I do get to meet them.

Also say a brief prayer to God before you go in. (or whatever you believe in) To help build your confidence up.opening yourself up to new people can be scarey

It is much easier to do here , because we dont have to see each other. So we don't know the emotions or reactions on their faces, or body languages only their words or comments .

Good Luck.

Is this an eating disorder?

I don't have anorexia or bulmia It's just that there are certain foods that I don't want to eat cause I think that I will get spotty skin or get cellulite, I don't eat chocolate and hardly eat crisps all I want to eat is fruit and veg and I don't like eating processed foods like ready meals cause they contain too much salt! but I don't think i'm fat, is this a disorder? Please help!

Is this an eating disorder?
i use to eat whatever i wanted meat, candy whatever....but i always got acne and i didnt focus that much or anything....i now eat only vegies and fruit and some fish...no acne, focus more... i have a 4.0 average in college....no its not an eating disorder..some people may call it that but, but really everybody has a different eating style.....

Dont let people put you down..be what you are

and dont let people make you believe its a disorder
Reply:It's not an eating disorder - you just want to eat healty. Brava!
Reply:no sounds like you have healthy diet .
Reply:Nope, your just what the rest of us want to be and thats controlled! well done to you! xx
Reply:u have a problem..... some foods u don't eat are essential to building amino acids and proteins. try the low sodium meals or cook them fresh if u want.
Reply:Eating disorders generally dont have anything to do with the actual food a person eat. A person with an eating disorder usually has a problem with self image and the way they see thems selfs, they use food as somethin they can control. As for you from what you wrote....you dont have a problem with self image...you eat certain foods to stay healthy...not to lose or gain weight
Reply:No, just your preference which is perfectly alright.
Reply:no. You are just conscience of what you eat. Nothing wrong with that.
Reply:you're just being careful not to get fat. nothin wrong wit that. keep it up
Reply:It sounds like healthy choices to me, but it is a complete myth that chocolate causes spots, spots and acne are caused by raging hormones being released in uncontrolled surges, acne aslo runs in families. A wee bit of choccy, now and again won't hurt you.
Reply:I PERSONALLY DON'T THINK YOU HAVE A DISORDER. BUT, YOU MAY WANT TO SEE A NUTRITIONIST TO GET A WELL BALANCED MEAL PLAN. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE PROCESSED FOOD THEN YOU SHOULD TRY ALL NATURAL FOODS WITH NO PERSERVATIVES. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL HEALTH FOOD STORE OR NUTRITIONIST FOR MORE INFORMATION. SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU ARE JUST A PICKY EATER. GOOD LUCK.
Reply:cor you lucky thing. I wish i had your willpower for such a healthy diet!
Reply:Hi no its self control and i like the way you are keeping your delf in tip top shape with your eating, I wish i could be more like you, the thing is i dont like veg or most friuts, You havent go an eating disorder you are just looking after yourself and its the way to do it. Keep it up !
Reply:You appear to have a very healthy diet.Have you been to your G.P,you may have an under active thyroid which can cause weight gain and difficulty in losing weight
Reply:I think in a way it is. But its NOT terrible that you like to eat friuts and veg's. Chocolate will not hurt you if used in moderation. Processed foods and ready to eat meals are NOT terrible for you either. You just have a very picky food selection and your reasons...not too much that you have a disorder, but in my opinion, I would say, SOME WHAT, sortof, you do!
Reply:No I don't think you have bulimia or anorexia. I just think that your body cannot accept certain types of foods for some reason ( I can't eat peanuts coz I throw up, get an itchy throat every time I eat them as a result I have to avoid eating products that contain peanuts and traces). I think its a good idea to talk to your doctor and see what they say. I just think you like eating healthy foods as you said fruits and veg which is brilliant, as you said too much salt is not good for you. Its really good that you are watching your diet well. I can't watch my diet like you I get tempted to eat KFC or Burger King once a while... I know its awful
Reply:Oh my god, i think you should have yourself commited! What are you doing to your body?? Depriving it of all the crap that's horrible for your body but people insist on eating anyways, what are you thinking? You're sick, really sick, you should definately see a professional about this. All kidding aside now, good for you for only wanting to put healthy things in your body, keep it up! I don't know by your question if you eat any kind of meat or not, if you don't the only thing you may want to do is ask your doctor if there are any kind of vitamins or anything you can take or eat to substitute the animal proteins you may not be getting.
Reply:No........sounds like you are eating pretty healty to me!!!
Reply:no, that sounds a very healthy attitude to food.
Reply:Don't be stupid, you're just eating healthily.
Reply:Good for you, its not an eating disorder it just means your one of the few healthy ones out there. I wish i had your taste buds, then a diet would be easy xx
Reply:sounds like your a picky eater with a weird fetish for healthy food. you know what your doing so answer your own question!!

Do I have an eating disorder?

Well, yesterday I exercised the whole friggin day, and since I didn't have school today I said I was going to exercise even more, but my belly and my muscles and some of my bones hurt a lot! I've already ran for a while but I'm so sleepy and tired that I just can't! I don't eat too much because it makes me sick, because when I have like, 1 day and a half without eating and I feel dizzy, I eat a little and I feel worse. Sometimes I throw up what I just ate. but it's not like everyday and every time I eat, just when I over eat or when I eat something greasy or sweet. At school, when everyone's eating around me at breakfast and lunch, I take ibuprofen or acetaminophen to stop hunger pangs. Everyone says I'm too skinny but I don't think so. I can see my ribs but I still I feel fat. My skin is more pale than usual and my hands shake once in a while. Is this an eating disorder or am I just still adjusting to diet and work out?

Do I have an eating disorder?
Yup, that's an eating disorder. Quit being stupid or die, your choice. The world won't miss another rich American kid who wastes their life.
Reply:Talk to a doctor about your concerns, no one on this website will be able to properly tell you
Reply:Yes I think you have an eating disorder.
Reply:I'm no specialist, but any type of workout requires one to have energy to burn. I suggest seeking out their know-how to fine tune specifics. By what you typed, sounds like theirs potential for the worse. Via experience of my life, any exercising without any energy reserves can be a bad thing %26amp; a experience I wouldn't recrimend. One goes blind in such scenarioes cause your eyes dilate until you eat something.
Reply:You haven't given enough information for anyone to be able to assess whether or not you have an eating disorder. But why do you go for a day and a half without eating? I wonder if you have an underlying health problem. First, before consulting any doctor, perhaps you could try to fix things yourself. Why have you become obsessive about exercise? It shouldn't rule your life this. I think for now, you should forget about exercise, and do only what happens as a matter of course in your day, ie walking to school, sports at school etc. Concentrate on trying to eat normally. I think for you this means small meals frequently rather than 3 big meals each day. So have a small breakfast, then take a snack to school for mid morning. Eat a small lunch. If possible have another small snack for mid afternoon, then a small meal in the evening and another small snack later in the evening. Drink plenty of water but not so much that it makes you feel bloated. Take it in small amounts. Don't worry too much about what you eat for now. Just concentrate on getting into a pattern of eating . But don't make it all sweet stuff. If you have no luck with any of this after about a month, then go to your doctor. It's important to have various conditions ruled out before settling on the diagnosis of an eating disorder. If you can see your ribs then you are definitely not fat. But stop thinking about fat or skinny. Just try to normalise your eating. When you are successfully eating small meals, you can eventually get back to 3 meals and start to think about having a reasonably well balanced diet. Then you can exercise again, but don't let it become an obsession.

Any ladies out there have body dysmorhic disorder?

im in my twenties. still live with parents. i think ive always had this disorder. most girls my age are married and have kids by now. but because im so unattractive and socially phobic it'll never happen. i also have social anxiety disorder. i have ocd. and i have ptsd. i feel like a freak with all these problems. i look like one too. i have horrible skin, buck teeth, 10 lbs too heavy and oh yeah im beyond flat chested. and people wonder why i don't date or have any friends. take one look at me and youll see.

Any ladies out there have body dysmorhic disorder?
If you want things to change the first thing you have to change the way you think. This is an aspect of the therapists teach to people who are trying to recover from having Social Anxiety Disorder. Because you have Social Anxiety Disorder and Body Dismorphic Disorder you most likely over-analyze a lot and have many negative thoughts. You have to stop this negative thought cycle and try to rationalize. Once you stop believing all the over exaggerated negative thoughts that you immediately tell yourself, things will get easier. You have a chance at the life you dream of. You just need to work on self-confidence first. How can you love your life without first learning to love yourself?
Reply:Your self esteem is too low. i've seen many ugly people or very fat people with mates. if you are ugly, you are not the only ugly person who's looking for someone but i doubt it that your not at least a 6. you just need to improve on you self esteem and not give up.

Autoimmune skin problem, is that a possible cause of HIV or AIDS?

If someone has a skin problem, itchiness, redness and bumpy like skin when scrathed or without scratching, which last from minutes to hours, on and off almost everyday, and was told as an autoimmune disorder, could that be HIV or AIDS symptom?

Autoimmune skin problem, is that a possible cause of HIV or AIDS?
no not always it can be an allergy or your own body sending signals to your skin that it doesn't know something that you go near any more thus making you ill.i have developed lots of allergies this year and they said it was autoimmune related.i take one ceterizine every day and use creams from allergy specialist.by the way i have to avoid parabens)its a preservative in medicines shampoos and soaps)so hard to avoid plus people walking past me with strong perfumes and aftershave starts my skin itching going lumpy and red!!!see your GP or try anti histamine your self see if it calms it and then you will know its allergy related.let us know how you get on
Reply:AUtoimmune diseases are an OVERACTIVE immune system.... they are the opposite of something like hiv/aids Report It

Reply:The best way to find out is to go see a doctor.
Reply:I have auto-immune disease (not auto-immune defiency....ie aids) so are you sure that whoever mentioned the possibility of a autoimmune disorder didnt mean what ive got as opposed to HIV/AIDS ? I only ask because when they first mentioned Auto-immune to me I actaully thought they were telling me I had AIDS...obviously I didnt. My Auto-immune disease attacks my system and as a result my Thyroid has ceased functioning. All im saying is you need to be sure what they meant by Auto-immune disease before going into full blown panic. There are other types, not just HIV/AIDS. The only way to find out for sure is to take a test at your local GUM clinic. Or ask whoever told you (if that was a health proffessional) what they meant by an "Auto-immune Disorder". Goodluck
Reply:Hi. I have auto immune liver disease and itch like crazy all the time. If I was to scratch every itch, all day, i would probably end up with marks on my skin as you describe. I need to use a lot of self control not to itch.

However, I do not have HIV or AIDS.

The only way to know for certain is for the person with the problem to go to the doc, ask what the disorder is called, and look up the info on the autoimmune disorder.
Reply:An auto immune disorder....does not tend to mean AIDS... heyfever, anaphilatic shock, allergies are all auto immune disorders.... so calm down

HIV (human immuno-deficiency Virus) does not have symptoms other than during conversion, this tends to take the form of a flu that is really mean, and can last days and sometimes months....no hard and fast rule here. After that HIV has no symptoms....it is only when your immune system has becomes so depleted by the attack of the virus that it fails...it is then your body becomes suseptable to any type of illness....it is at this point you have AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) anything can (and I mean anything) can be a symptom of AIDS...so just because someone has a rash does not mean they have AIDS...they only sure way is to go for a test. Some people get cancer, some get illness like PCP, and others (rarer for sure you can get really exotic deseases like Japanese Encephalitis) (really sorry about the spelling!!! But am not a doctor so have no idea how things are spelt
Reply:hi. first of all its DEFINITELY not a concrete sign of HIV/AIDS and i would strongly recommend that you go see a competent dermatologist who could also refer you for blood tests to establish the cause of your skin condition. while your at it have the lab tech check your HIV status as well. to search for explanations regarding medical conditions on the Internet is not advised, as you need to understand that a doctor must physically SEE YOU an examine you, in order to give you the correct dosage medication that suits your specific needs, never take advice from unqualified people, it could harm you. all the best!

An auto-immune skin problem is not AIDS. There are many auto-immune illnesses and AIDS is one of them. But they are all different individual diseases.

An autoimmune disease is where your body no longer recognises it's own cells and starts to attack them. In AIDS the acquired virus attacks the immune system and makes it unable to defend the body. In non-acquired auto-immune diseases (such as hypothyroidism) the immune system attacks the persons own cells, in this case the thyroid and make it unable to produce thyroid hormones, making the person tired, cold and dry.

For more info on autoimmunity see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoimmunit...

im not sure.

sorry
Reply:it is most probably some allergic reaction, insect bites, body lice etc. i dont think it is an AIDS symptom. AIDS symptoms on skin will be very rare skin diseases like herper zoster, candidiasis which occurs in immunocompromised people.
Reply:No. Auto-immune disorders happen when your body gets confused and attacks the wrong thing. Excema is an auto-immune disorder in which your body attacks your skin cells. There are other sorts of auto-immune disorders as well which cause things like certain types of baldness.

Excema and other auto-immune disorders are not contaigous, they're hereditary. They often come out during times of stress.

That having been said, did a doctor tell you that this was an auto-immune disorder? If not, you should get it looked at. In the meantime, apply Cortizone 10 (an over the counter cream) and take baths in Aveno.
Reply:I've got a autoimmune disease[lupus]and i had a spot.that i kept scratching and with in a week my all body was cover in sores

Sir...the only help I can tell you is, you are not living a life right now and you need...ONE...a complete physical to rule out contributing physical problems and...TWO...extensive and immediate treatment. Body dismorphic disorder is a very treatable condition...but you have to take the first step in getting that treatment.

Skin allergies??

Could it be possible that detergen, soap, shampoo or even dust can cause skin to feel itchy, red and bumpy sometimes? What if I have used the same product for years and it has never cause those symptom? My housemate used to have chicken pox and after two weeks I got shingles. Was sent to seen neurologist and got better in two weeks. But a week after that, I have itchiness and redness of my skin which last from minutes to hours, on and off almost everyday. He prescribed me with antihistamine, it helps with the itchiness sometimes, but i still have the same itchiness and redness on an off. My neurologist consulted the hospital's dermatologist and through phone she said it could be an autoimmune disorder and will last for few months. Should I go and seek other specialist advise or just wait and see???

Skin allergies??
Ask to be referred to a dermatologist, so they can make a proper diagnosis, rather than guess work over the phone.
Reply:ya when chicken pox beguns to fade away it does cause lot of itching.u could wait for a week or so then get consulted again.
Reply:I've had red itchy rashes / bumps for about a week. Went to see my Doctor and she said it was an allergy, but the only way to really find out what it is and try and eliminate on ething at a time and see what happens. She also said Anti-histamine.

I've since found it was an Imperial Bubble Bath, ironically enough for Sensitive skin!

So you could try eliminating one thing at a time and see what happens. I struck lucky and found mine.

Good luck!
Reply:I think the after affects of shingles is affecting you

I suffer from sensitivity to a lot of things, some foods, dust, pollen, soaps.......I take Zirtek everyday because the the other ones make me drowsy, also dry skin can make you very itchy

I would seek specialist advice if it continues because you can't live like that it will drive you mad.......

good luck xx
Reply:All of the things you described can cause you to have an allergic reaction. If you want to lower your allergy load, here are some things you can do....use a free and clear detergent, use Bounce with a rating of 0, (no dyes no perfumes) use ivory soap and use a baby shampoo.

If you do this for a week or so, you may notice a difference. Then you can add things back one at a time and determine what things are causing you to have a reaction.

The key thing to remember is....no dyes, no perfumes. Your perfume, scented lotion, etc. All of these things can cause an allergic reaction.

Hope you feel better soon.

What does extreme fatigue, joint pain, and skin painful to the touch mean?

I am 53 years old and post menapausal. Ok, so I have arthritis, depression, and anxiety disorder. But, these things should be under control at this time. The skin problem is on the back of my neck, where I got sunburned everyday for 3 years (about ten years ago).

What does extreme fatigue, joint pain, and skin painful to the touch mean?
Ok Ida where should I start the list?? First, have you had a bone density test? Very important. There are a fist full of things that come to mind. where do you live and could you have picked up a tick?

You don't need to answer exactly where you live, but you might consider being checked for Lymes if you do live by tick country. Ok, so we scaratch the tick .....How about bone denisity, is Osteroporisis a possibility? I sure would like you to go check the symptom checker @ http://symptoms.webmd.com/ and let us know what it says also
Reply:At first glance, I'd say heat exhaustion, from a variety of sources, the sun, fevers, inflammation, etc.

I'm sorry to say there's no cure for arthritis, depression nor anxiety disorder, they might be under control, but you'll probably have to deal with it for the rest of your life.

last but not least, talk to a doctor, the fact your skin is painful to the touch is a bad sign, seek medical attention as soon as you can
Reply:The combination of those three things could be coincidental, but probably not. You should see a doctor - and soon!

Good luck!
Reply:Could be chronic fatigue - I had these symptoms with chronic fatigue

Finger Skin Picking Habit?

For as long as I can remember, I've been tearing skin off my fingers, usually until it bleeds. I've read this could possibly be a sign of OCD or an anxiety disorder. I have noticed that I do it subconsciously, sometimes when nervous and other times when bored. I do show OCD-like symptoms sometimes but nothing I would say interferes with my life and therefore would not make me think that I have a "disorder." Am I wrong? Could there possibly be an underlying mental problem accompanying this habit that I don't know about? I'm not concerned about stopping this habit. I've tried and nothing works.

Finger Skin Picking Habit?
it is possible that you may have a form of OCD. What needs to be understood is that there are many forms of OCD and every individual is different in their symptoms and habits. The difference between having a disorder or simply a bad habit is whether or not your behavior is considered more of a ritual. If you cannot continue on with your day or it severly irritates you if you are unable to pick the skin from your fingers then this may be a form of OCD. However, it sounds more like you just have more of a habit. If it doesn't bother you or effect your life I wouldn't really be to concerned about it. People are quick to assume that they have a disorder just because something is different or they have one symptom that relates to a disorder. Chances are, you are just fine and I wouldn't be to concerned.
Reply:It sounds more like a nervous habit rather than a mental dysfunction.

We all exhibit some physical manifestation of tension release when we are anxious or bored.

Is being g@y real or a mental disorder?

Is Homosexuality real or some sort of mental disorder?

I believe homosexuality is a type of mental disorder. Take for example anorixia; girls insist, WITH CONVICTION that they're fat when in reality, they're skin and bones. They are normal, have families are married, and functional in every other way except for this serious issue...or say the example of a pedophile (obvious a different catagory but nevertheless a disorder), research has been made that they function normally in every other way except for this mental discrepency. I have never ever once heard of the evidence that homosexulaity is a real condition. I just hear, "they say" or "don't be closed minded" but no one can evey say anything after that, nothing to back it up. My point is just because eveybody says it's true doesn't make it true. right? Just because the mass population said segregation before civil liberties was right and necessary doesn't make it correct. I think most people just repeat what other people say and not question it themselves. what do you think?

Is being g@y real or a mental disorder?
I think that YOU'RE going to think whatever you want anyway....BUT....

homosexuality is NOT a mental disorder. You will NOT find it is the DSM. ;)
Reply:It's not a matter of people "not thinking about it." Years ago, being gay was considered a mental disorder. Through years of research we have discovered that that theory is wrong and removed it from the list of mental disorders.

Homosexuality is real. It is everyones right to be happy. If a man is happy being with another man then who are we to say that it isn't right?

If we were ignorant towards homosexuality (like you are) then it would create more mental disorders. So many young homosexual people believe their only choice is suicide because there society isn't accepting of their sexuality. How would you like to have that burden?
Reply:No, you have the WRONG understanding. Being gay has nothing to do with mass murdering. 33 lives are not being taken by someone who is gay. You need to get a head check. How can you relate those to ideas together? You cant. You are rude and a homophobic. Report It

Eating disorder...?

My eating disorder has ruined my life. I became anorexic at 13, now at fifteen, I feel Iike there's no point in continuing my life as it's already spoiled for good. I will have severely stunted my growth and brain developement, which means I will never be as clever/creative as I could have been, and I don't know why, but after my recovery my skin seemed to go into this wierd accelorrated aging thing and I'm now wrinkled, saggy, and covered in pigmentation. What is the point in continuing , really?

Reply:Because after all that, things can only get better, right? With the billions of things on earth that could kill you at any second, don't you think being alive is a miricle? Why not hang around and see how good it could be, that's my reason for being here or believe me, I'd have copped it ages ago!
Reply:that is so sad but you need to continue with your life i will pray for you to get better bless your hart!!!
Reply:I know exactly what you are going through I was anorexic when I was 16 You will look and feel better after you have been better for awhile. You did a lot of damage and it is going to take time to fix itself and you may have done damage to your organs also that can't be fixed. Go to a doctor and have them check you over OK and don't give up you can win the fight.
Reply:I'm sorry you are feeling so bad right now, but your life is not over. Your eating disorder was just an eating disorder, and I know you feel it ruined your life, but that is not the case.

No matter what happens you have the ability to recover from it. If you are feeling bad, please read Louise Hay's book, How to Heal Your Life. You can check it of the library or buy it on Amazon.com or www.hayhouse.com.

Also, read The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.
Reply:I can honestly say just by reading your question had a profound impact on me. And the point to continue would be that your story can impact others - especially those suffering from a similar eating disorder.

The best thing you could do is be brave and help others. It is an amazing feeling to open up, tell your story and hopefully stop someone else from feeling alone and helpless in their struggles.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Reply:The point is at 15 you have your whole life in front of you with all its surprises and all its potential. You should get in touch with a natural healer and find out all they can offer you to repair the damage already done. At 15 you don't have a lot of the answers and knowledge that will make things better in your life. It is very recently that you have recovered from anorexia and you are still growing and probably by your early 20s you will have a better idea of how your brain and body will be...certainly not now.
Reply:If you keep thinking like that, then you will be miserable for the rest of your life (how ever long you make it last).

You need to think positively. So what if you're not the brighest of the bunch! So what if you're not the prettiest one in the group! You will have other qualities that people will find attractive in you. Go out with a group of friends to a club. Dress up nice, and try to smile at everyone while you're there. Dance with your friends. You never know, you might actually start to enjoy yourself.

You just need to think that you are ok. If people see you always being miserable, then you wo't make any friends.

THINK POSITIVE
Reply:Well, first of all you need to go to the psychology section, and more importantly, go get professional help.
Reply:you can find joy in life without looks/intelligence coming in to it, if you've spent so much time and effort recovering you should not let it go to waste ,try to find pleasure in something else your family friends hobbies don't live in what ifs it would only make you miserable their may be something that could fix you up if you really want, science works wonders:)
Reply:Well first believe me at fifteen things always seem much worse than they really are, (I hated adults telling me this at the time.) Secondly at your age (Sorry I hated that too) your powers of physical recovery are truly amazing and all the physical things you mention will improve. None of us really reach our full potential and I suspect you are probably still clever and creative use what you have to the best, you'll surprise yourself.

You won't really believe anything I've said on an emotional level, but try and remember it even if you don't really believe it at the moment. You best strategy is to live a day at a time, break the day up into chunks and just work through them one at a time. Remember you are recovering from a horrible life threatening illness, you must be incredible strong to have got this far, I really admire you, so be kind yourself you deserve it.

And good luck
Reply:Claudia sweetheart, I know how you feel. Your eating disorder consumed you. You didn't ask for your disease, but you seem to have overcome it. If things got really awful, you may have fallen victim to this awful disease. But you have pulled through and you are alive to experience life to the full. The human body is an amazing thing and its ability to handle severe stress is mindblowing! Cells regenerate, they grow, they replenish, your brain and your heart and your bones can only get stronger from now on. If you are recovered and you are able to eat, then I think it would be wise to eat foods which are nourishing to your body. Your brain would need Omega 3 oils, your body would need fresh fruit and vegetables, proteins and wholegrain carbohydrates, your bones would need calcium, and your heart would need LOVE. Love yourself and you will shine. Drink plenty of water for your skin, and try some green tea to regenerate you skin cells. You will get through this and you will become a better person from it. Your life starts now so make the most of it and be happy.

Take care and keep well.

The reason to go on is to live your life. Life is a crazy rollercoaster that can take you wherever you choose to go. Have you thought about speaking to other teenagers who are going through what you've been through?

I'm a firm believer that everyone has a purpose -- maybe yours is educating others about this disorder and it's effects on the body?

Not to sound like a therapist....but you need to learn to love yourself as a whole --body, mind and spirit. it's not an easy task, but as you learn to not only accept yourself, but truly love yourself, many other things are put into perspective in life.

Eating disorder...?
Hi Claudia,

OK, what I'm going to say sounds unbelievable, even to me at times, but bear with me. I've been dealing with ED's on and off for over 14 years. My highest weight was about 50 pounds heavier than when I was full-on anorexic. What I want to say is hang in there. My eating issues began when I was 11, and yes, it messed up my metabolism for several years. I've always looked older than my age because of it. BUT, the body, when treated properly, can restore itself in most cases. Even my friend, who was dying for over 5 years, went on to have 4 children, be a normal weight and looks great even now in her early 50's. She was diagnosed as infertile, and a hopeless case. They said because of her major loss of bone mass she would never be able to participate in athletic activities without serious injury. And she is a walking, living testimony of the healing that can take place within a body.

OK, so I currently am not as healthy as I need to be. Sometimes I feel this exact way: "my metabolism is messed up for good, so why bother to change", "I've wasted so much of my life", and "I've caused permanent damage to my body" are all things that I say and believe quite often, even though I know it's in my power to undo so many of the damaging things I've done. I've had periods of recovery(normally 1-2 years) where for the first 6-9 months I balloon and get really big. Then slowly, my metabolism goes back to normal and I lose the majority of it. Before the relapse I'm currently in, I was eating 4000-5000 calories a day and STILL weighed 10-15 pounds below my highest weight! I know my body can get to that point again, but it's hard to believe. The body may not heal itself overnight, sometimes it takes years.

Another thing I was always worried about was my skin and wrinkles too. I think I have more wrinkles than the average 25-year-old, but I have seen girls who are younger than me, who are totally healthy, with worse skin than me! And I snagged myself a pretty good-lookin' husband, inspite of my flaws!

Mentally, I function a million times better and am very productive when I am eating normally. Don't believe the lies that your brain development ceased when you became anorexic! You can learn so many things, it doesn't end with an ED!

All of these "woes" are minimal compared to your mental health. I think it may benefit you to believe positively about yourself. Listen and take in other peoples' recovery accounts. Believe these things for yourself! Don't listen to the hopelessness that may be spoken over you by friends, professionals, parents, etc. Know that you CAN have a GREAT life, complete with a healthy mind, body and spirit. I know these things are possible for me also, but I have an advantage over you, I have experienced my body being healed, so I know this is true. Besides, what really exudes life, confidence, beauty, ability and intelligence, is not your physical body, but the spirit in which you project those qualities!

I'm not negating the seriousness of an ED. I'm just trying to restore some hope and bring light to a disorder that is normally deemed hopeless.

The biggest recovery tool for me has been my relationship with Christ. I know I was created for a purpose, and that destiny has not yet been fulfilled in my life. The same goes for you. You are far more valuable that brain cells, saggy skin and hopelessness. You were created for so much more life! We were both created to be living testimonies of changed lives and bodies!

God bless you, precious, valued and beautiful Claudia!
Reply:It sounds to me that for several yrs your eating disorder was your best friend because now that its come and gone you feel you have nothing left to live for, there is plenty to live for. God loves you and will help you get out of this mess, there can always be life again after an ED, just continue to stay strong, God loves you and

it will all be ok...

A disease or disorder with Siren in the name?

Its about the bones in your feet being grown together im pretty sure and the skin grows over them making a mermaid effect i'm not sure if its a disorder or disease or whatever. Does anyone know what its called?

A disease or disorder with Siren in the name?
Sirenomelia is a rare congenital disorder can result in a child with legs fused together and the genitalia reduced. Because of the similarity to the legendary mermaids, it is called "mermaid syndrome" or "sirenomelia". This condition is about as rare as conjoined twins and is usually fatal within a day or two of birth because of kidney and bladder complications. There are two known survivors of this disorder alive today.

Bipolar Disorder Sister?

I think my younger sister has bipolar disorder. Right now my sister is screaming so loud and she's 11. When you tap your fingers or something, she'll yell at you and just go beserk. She'll yell at you, and if she doesn't get her way, she'll go violent or try to ruin your stuff. Like one time, we were camping in a camper and she and my mom were having this big argument and she threw her shoe at my mom to try and really hurt her. Another time she bit my mom so hard my mom's skin turned purple. It always seems to happen to my parents because they're the ones who tap their fingers or hum to a song or something, I don't because I don't want to start an argument. We've tried two therapists, but neither have worked. I know my sister is going to end up a teenager who cuts herself and attempts suicide or something. How can I cope with this? Is there a CURE, like medications or something? Or is it like a phase? It's been going on for about a year now. And is it even bipolar disorder? HELP ME!!!!

Bipolar Disorder Sister?
Sounds like some sort of aggressive behaviour problems..11 is a really tough age...You want to be grown up but you are just not.. It could be a phase of simply trying to figure out herself and not being sure how to express it... I would obviously suggest a DR for diagnosis.
Reply:maybe she has some proble mwith her ears since it seems to happen when you hum or tap ur fingers. but bipolar disoder isnt out of the question.
Reply:Pray for her that always works
Reply:Unless she also has spans when she is extra happy or giddy, then I don't think she's bipolar. She definitely has rage and anger problems, though.
Reply:I think she just needs anger management
Reply:Yes you are right it is bipolar and there is no cure but there are treatments and meds that will help her.I to am bipolar and have been on meds for two years.I now live a great life and she can too.
Reply:Depends what exactly triggers it, but if it's noise related then I can understand her. Got something like that myself where specific noises can trigger a very violent reaction that even I have no control over. Tapping fingers on a table is one of the triggers and I could imagine humming would work.

The closest I've come to treatment is something called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which tries to retrain your brain to ignore or bypass these triggers. Not sure how well this works as still waiting for it.

However, *if* it's not specific to certain noises and lasts more than 10 seconds or so, then I suspect there's something else causing the effects. Wouldn't say it sounds very bi-polar, but at the extreme end I might suggest some form of schizophrenia as that can suddenly trigger, although she's a bit young and that is a pretty extreme end of the options list.

Really depends how long this has been going on for, but a doctor is probably a much better option than therapists who to be honest are often overpaid, self-taught and useless. You need someone with medical training to look at all the options.
Reply:obviously, you cant deal with this alone and you cant fix it. have you tried talking to your parents when she is not around and let them know how much ith bothers you and how much you want to see her helped and get to a healthy happy state of mind. she seems so angry. what has happend to cause such intense anger and lack of self control in a young child?

as stated by others....she needs to be seen by a doctor and mental health professional for proper testing and diganosis.
Reply:It doesnt sound like bipolar. It seems she needs some anger management though. I think she is reaching or recently reached puberty and her hormones are raging. In any event, she should seek professional help. Btw, how does someone as young as you know anything about cutting?
Reply:I am so sorry you have to live under those conditions. It must be so stressful to you and your parents, and even to your sister as well. She may not be able to help herself.I am not sure if she has bipolar disorder but she does sound from what you described that she has some sort of mental illness. Your parents need to keep trying to find a therapist who will work for your sister. Just out of curiosity, why didn't they work out? Just like any relationship, sometimes therapists and their clients just don't click. By not continuing to try to get her help, your parents are in a sense giving up on her. Without any help, this problem is going to get worse as she gets older (and physically stronger--she sounds dangerous). They need to keep trying to find someone who can help. Yes, it's exhausting work but your parents out to your sister and to you. Is your sister on any medications? It sounds like she can definitely benefit from some psychotropic medications--which ones depend on her diagnosed condition. Your family could probably also benefit from family therapy. This is a lot to deal with, and even the strongest families would suffer. Take care.
Reply:It is hard to determine if she has bipolar at such a young age. But that does not rule out that she may have a problem. Her behavior being so aggressive and at times violent does indicate a deeper problem than just normal teenage behavior. Apparently a trigger for her is tapping and humming. Arguments only inflame the situation more. She definitely needs to get help. In this case, I feel a psychiatrist may be needed. A therapist does not have the extensive training that a psychiatrist has nor the ability provide medication that the patient may need. **I am bipolar and grew up in a bipolar home. My grandmother and mother are. My oldest sister is schizophrenic. My best friend in high school had an anger management problem. So I do have some experience. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.**

Skin burns/itches if I get in the sun (spf45 & umbrella) also fatigue/nausea after exposure. syndromes?

My skin burns bright red even after 2 hrs in sun with spf 45, others around me aren't evening wearing sunscreen, and they are not burning, my skin is also very itchy after being in the sun, to the point that it is painful when I keep scratching on the freshly burned skin, but I can't stop--it just itches too much. I come inside after being out, my skin feels on fire, I have a headache, nausea, and I am extremely tired, so much that I have to take a nap. When these episodes have occurred (3 times in the last month), I have not been working or exercising, I have kept hydrated while I was outside. I am not taking any medication. My heritage is: Part italian, american indian, %26amp; german, I have dark hair and eyes, fair skin, I used to burn in the sun the first time, then tan through the summer (when i was out, on saturdays only--I have an inside job for the majority of the strong sun hours). I am wondering if this is some sort of disorder, syndrome, disease. I know I feel very ill.

Skin burns/itches if I get in the sun (spf45 %26amp; umbrella) also fatigue/nausea after exposure. syndromes?
There are several conditions that involve symptoms of sun sensitivity, including Lupus and Sjogrens Syndrome.

See a doctor and tell them the problems you have experienced.

Keep a diary of your symptoms, if you were in direct or indirect sunlight, indoors (i.e. via sun windows), the exact symptoms and in what order they occurred, how long the sun exposure was, and anything else you feel relevant. Include symptoms that you have that you may not have attributed to the sun exposure (headache, dhiarhhea, anything else). Share this with the doctor. Get more than one opinion if needed.

My six year old son on Daytrana for adhd and he has aspergers disorder?

My son had I don't want to say has because I know the good lord has healed him. Had adhd and Asperger's disorder if any one is not familer with that it's a form of Autisim. My question is he wears the patch for his adhd the med. is Daytrana and he has been on this med. since Dec. 18 06 here the last couple of months he has been picking at his ear , his face, and any scab he can find on his body until it bleeds. I was wondering which I have asked on here already if it could be the Daytrana that is making him do this because he can't stop it's almost like he is upsest with is he tells me his skin tickles. I have hard that some meds. can make your skin feel like it's crawling. Could it be the Asperger's disorder that is making him do this. I don't know I already took him to his doctor and he looks at it and all he did was give me a presc. for ointment. He tells me that it's just a habit he has picked up. I should had said something because I was thinking why all of the sudden.

My six year old son on Daytrana for adhd and he has aspergers disorder?
Daytrana is a stimulant (it has the same active ingredient as Ritalin), and I think it extremely unlikely it could cause skin picking. Common side effects are things like difficulty sleeping, and loss of appetite, not skin picking. I takes Concerta, which has the same active ingredient as Daytrana, and I'm quite certain that my doctor wouldn't have prescribed it to me if there were any known risk of self injurious behavior associated with it as I already have a history of cutting, and she was reluctant to prescribe something that had a 0.4% chance of increased suicidal thoughts or behaviors as a side effect for that reason.

Skin picking (and other forms of self injury) are fairly common amoung autism spectrum disorders, so I would attribute it to the Asperger's rather than the medication. However, he should be seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist with experience working with autism spectrum disorders, as well as his regular pediatrian (or whoever gave you the ointment). Skin picking in a six year old isn't something that should be written off as "just a habit he has picked up." It's something that needs to be addressed by a mental health professional with experience working with autistic children.

What is going on!?!? I'm only 15, but my skin is wrinkly and saggy!?

i don't get it! recently my skin seems to have gone into accelerated aging, I had an eating disorder about a year ago, but thats all in the past now and I didn't have this problem after I was better, yet lately I have developed stretch marks, my skin tone is uneven, my face has become saggy and scrawny, veins have become visible all over my body and my hands have become completely wrinkled, I used to have gorgeous skin, i am half ethiopian and my skin was really thick and elastic, just like my sisters, I don't know what is wrong with me, could my anorexia have triggered some sort of hormone disorder?

What is going on!?!? I'm only 15, but my skin is wrinkly and saggy!?
That's weird that you mention this because earlier today I was on imdb.com looking up "White Christmas". Actress Vera Ellen dealt with anorexia and her body prematurely aged. All her costumes in the movie covered her neck to hide her wrinkled neck. I never heard of this happening to people with anorexia before. I don't know the answer to your question, but you're not alone. You'll probably have to go to the doctor and see what he/she says. I'm sorry this is happening to you. Best of luck!
Reply:Maybe you have a vitamin deficiancy.
Reply:go to the doctor.
Reply:Well stretchmarks i know can come from rapid weight loss, or weight gain and they're just part of growing up. I suggest that you go to your dermatologist immediately, and your general doctor as well. It may not actually be your skin thats the problem but some dietary issue(your skin reflects what you eat)

good luck hun
Reply:Sounds to me like you STILL have an eating disorder after looking at your other questions. You are obsessed STILL with food and what it might do to your body. If you are not in counseling--you need to get your parents to take you to see a doctor. If you really have saggy, wrinkled skin....then you should be seen by a doctor, too. Not sure if you were very heavy and lost a lot of weight or gained some very quickly...?
Reply:I think you should go to the doctor! You never know what's wrong and it seems that this has occured unexpectedly. Tell your parents and go to the doctor
Reply:Yes, this is possible. Any kind of malnutrition (also in the case of anorexia) can stress and damage your skin. But it should be reversable in your age. Skin under 25 can recover quite easily. Eat properly, moisturize well and take a multivitamin, especially Vitamin B complex and Vitamin E. Lots of healthy fats (Omega oils, Olive oil, Flaxseed oil) can benefit your skin immensely,
Reply:First thing....go see a doctor.

You probably have to eat properly and drink more water. Your body is probably dehydrated causing your skin to winkle up.

Am I having a psychosexual disorder? What should I do?

I have this neighbor, and when I see him I feel this very strong desire to touch him, especially his arms and neck. It has come to the point that when I see him I just want to pounce on him and just take him.

If you need a description-- he is of tall and slim build, he has fair skin and a long neck...

Am I suffering from a psychosexual disorder, or is this just something of a feeling? What should I do?

Am I having a psychosexual disorder? What should I do?
It's not a disorder. It's a normal reaction towards someone you are attracted to. You want him, he makes you horny.
Reply:I'm not too worried about it, really. I wouldn't worry about it. Don't worry about it. I'm not worried at all.
Reply:Pray he doesn't call the police on you if you go through with this urge.
Reply:no your just having a fantasy get over it our just let him know you might just get some in the process lol
Reply:You should be fine just dont act on your urges.

Psychology - Obsessive-compulsive disorder?

Obsessive-compulsive cleaners tend to resemble people suffering from

a. Dissociative identity disorder

b. Bipolar disorder

c. Phobia of dirt

d. Antisocial personality disorder

I know that Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder characterised by obsessions and compulsions. OCD is an anxiety disorder, a category in the DSM also includes post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia) and panic disorder. I think the answer is C. but it also might be B. I can’t figure it out. What do you think?

Common Obsession: Worrying excessively about dirt or germs and that you may become contaminated or contaminate others Common compulsion: Washing or cleaning: such as showering repeatedly or washing your hands until the skin is red and painful

Psychology - Obsessive-compulsive disorder?
no to a,b,d.

If you are constanly washing, then there must be some worry on your mind about getting dirting ( c. Phobia of dirt ) .

I do have ocd and I wash when I find it necessary.
Reply:i would say bipolar since they have the mania at times, maybe phobia of dirt...but that is pretty limited category since OCD can have obsessive thoughts and actions that dont deal with cleaning.
Reply:Definately C... Bipolars arent necessarily OCD.
Reply:Yeah its C, because having multiple person alities has nothing to do with it. But it doesn't mean necessarily that you're afraid of it, just that you feel like you have to get rid of it.
Reply:phobia of dirt
Reply:I have OCD.

It is not c.

Many sufferers do not have a phobia of dirt, this is just the most commonly publicised symptom,

It is the phobia of disorder, and how that might result in something that you fear.
Reply:Well, Im OCD and Bipolar so i would have to go with B...

About excess skin?

I am getting help for a eating disorder lost alot of weight, But i have some excess skin under my arms and a little on my stomach. As i gain the weight and do my exercises will it tighten over time or do i have to have surgery. My stomch and arms have gotten better then what they have been but i am nervous about surgery. Is weight gain exercise and eating right will it help without surgery? Thanks

About excess skin?
It should even out. If not try doing exercises to tone that area (crunches for stomach, push ups, etc) However, if problems persist, seek help.

Good luck on recovering!

You can do it!

It's not similar to Bipolar Disorder. Bipolar Disorder is characterized by depressions followed by manic or hypomanic episodes.

C is a better answer... not all people with OCD focus their obsessions %26amp;/or compulsions on dirt, but many do.
Reply:it's definately not B, and C is the obvious answer, but it may also be D i would think. Being alone so long puts one at a high risk of creating an OCD, especially if they don't do anything all day but clean, they will notice even the smallest bit of dirt in the house and see things as being dirty when they are actually clean.

Phobia of dirt.. your scared to be around it, and i don't think that's entirely the same thing as germaphobia where one cleans excessively in fear of germs or getting sick or getting something on their hands and don't want to touch anything without gloves.
Reply:It's C.
Reply:Obviously not a. or d.

OCD cleanears would most closely resemble an individual with a fear of dirt, yet I agree that it is possible that bipolar disorder could be correct as well. People going through a manic stage in BD can be frantic, a bit dilusional, and may scurry around the house making improvements, cleaning, painting, etc.

However, I still think your best answer is C.

Mental disorder?

i think i have a mental disorder...i constantly feel like bugs are crawling all over my skin. i mean im a clean person and what not but i still feel things crawling all over me. lol am i just crazy?

Mental disorder?
Morgellons (a non psychiatric illness) patients describe symptoms similar to what you are describing. In addition, those experiencing delirium tremens (i.e., symptoms resulting from withdrawl from alcohol) also describe the sensation of seeing/feeling bugs crawling under/on the skin.

What makes skin cancer so dangerous?

How do the cancerous cells hurt other cells?

Is UV the *only* cause of skin cancer?

And since skin cancer attacks the genes, that makes it a genetic disorder, right?

well cancer kills...
Reply:Hey, one question at a time...jeez!!

1) Melanoma spreads faster than most cancers.

2) No, there are other factors, but UV is the most prevalent

3) Uhm...no!!! A genetic disorder means it was passed down through your genes...IE your Mom or Dad had it!

4) I am not a Dr; nor do I play one on TV...seriously ask your Dr if you think you may have something!!!!!!

What should i do if i have a lighter skin color on my face?

I have this lighter skin color that is about one inch that runs down from the end of my eye to my cheek. Do u think if i apply sunblock on my entire face and leave out that lighter spot, it would even out my skin color? I tried it but it doesnt seem to be working. Im out in the sun all day becuz i play sports alot. Any tips on how i can fix this skin color problem? And does anyone know what this disorder is called? Thanks alot

What should i do if i have a lighter skin color on my face?
It is called Vitiligo. My daughter has the same problem but, in a different location on her body. It is usually completely harmless but, you should still mention it to your doctor.

There are treatment options such as steroid creams. I wouldn't try staying out in the sun because not only is the sun bad for your skin but, I have noticed in my daughter's situation that she will NOT tan where her patch of Vitiligo is. So, in actual reality, tanning would make the patch of skin stand out even more.

If it does bother you, then like I said, mention it to your doctor. Here is a link about it: http://www.niams.nih.gov/hi/topics/vitil...

Good luck!

Treatment for cat with bad skin problems, and other cat with chornic sinus drainage problems?
Please have your cat with the skin problem checked for diabetes. This was one of the first presentations for my cat who went misdiagnosed for 2 years.

You have to take it to the vet and check the sugar level in it's urine.

Good luck.
Reply:Have you discussed these issues with a trained and certified veterinarian? If you haven't that's the first thing you should do! There are many many things that can cause those problems. Such as the hair issue could indicate a skin disease or it could be a symptom for thyroid problems among many other things. One big thing I want to note though, never ever *ever* use a product made for another animal on a cat. If it doesn't say "cat" on the bottle than don't use it. The only reason I mention this is a lot of the time dog meds and skin conditioners and such can be cheaper so people will buy them for their cats. Unfortunately cats are allergic to many items that dogs aren't allergic to and can be made very sick and even die just by coming into contact with something as simple as dog shampoo.
Reply:Hi, I would take them to a holistic vet if you can afford that. If not, I would switch them both to a raw diet, expecially an organic one if possible.

Best of luck with your babies!

Why is my skin so sensitive?

It seems like i'm always finding something new that i'm allergic to , or that easliy irritates my skin. Lately it seems to be latex, or adhesives. even the tondue of my shoe irritates my skin? could this be caused by an autoimmune disorder?

Why is my skin so sensitive?
Sounds more like allergies than an autoimmune thing. You should make an appointment with a really good allergist. Latex and adhesive allergies aren't uncommon. good luck
Reply:go to a dermatologists to figure out what your allegies are and if its anyhting to worry about. but some people just have alot of allergies. google auto immune diseases to find a list of symptoms. if you dont have any then you are probably fine.
Reply:yes that sucks for u in a nice way iam allergic to 0 not 0 0 things,

What can I do to tighten my skin?

I'm 16 years old and I suffered from an eating disorder, now I'm thin with loose skin. My skin stretches about 1 inch from my body especially on my arms and on my triceps.

What can I do to tighten my skin?
Exercise can help. Lotions can help. The rest you will lose as you mature- just in time for wrinkles ;)
Reply:There's so lotion you can but that will help. I know you can use egg whites that are beaten on ur face and it will tighten it. Hope this helps ^_^

Does my family member have a psychological disorder?

My 60 yr old mother does the following things more and more over the last 10 to 15 years:

1. Talks constantly, jumping from topic to topic and making very hard-headed assertions based on limited or no knowledge. She seems literally incapable of controlling what comes out of her mouth, and will even make racist statements in public.

2. Exhibits high bursts of energy where she seemingly can't sit down and just relax.

3. Has to constantly organize items, e.g. will move every drink glass to the sink if it is left out for more than 5 minutes (in other words, if she sees it, she can't help but move it)

4. Constantly plans unimportant details, can't deal with ANY UNCERTAINTY

5. Constantly nervous, bites nails, shakes legs, picks skin

Are these symptoms of a psychological disorder? I would have said bipolar or manic but this is a constant set of behaviors that does not fluctuate from day to day or month to month. No apparent depressive episodes. Please help.

Does my family member have a psychological disorder?
All these people, all over the planet, seriously striving to stop eating, smoking, drinking, gambling, swearing, grouching etc. Don't they understand? The only way to give something up is to take something else up. If you embrace the alternative enthusiastically enough, your arms will neither have the space nor the desire to carry what they used to hold. If your resolution involves a sacrifice, you won't keep it for long. It's got to be based on inspiration. What excites you? What's worth striving for?

~~~~~~~~~~
Reply:it could be a few different things talk to her about it and have her talk to her dr. if she wont do that then you talk to her dr
Reply:These symptoms suugest mania and obssessive-compulsive behavior in your mother. It certainly would be in her best interest to have a thorough physical exam, at which point that physician will probably refer her to a psychiatrist for a thorough psychiatric evaluation.
Good luck with everything.
