I picked at my skin and have left some ugly scarring, how can I get rid of it?

Would microdermabrasion work? I mainly picked at acne on my face but I also did on my buttocks and arms. It's ugly and I'm otherwise, very preety. I had a disorder called body dysmorphic disorder which made me think my skin was really bad and it caused me to pick all over but mainly on my face, arms, back and buttocks. I'd pick at tiny pimples or ingrown hairs. Now that I'm better, I want the ugly reminders to go away. Help!

I picked at my skin and have left some ugly scarring, how can I get rid of it?
don't use microderm abrasion it will make your skin more light sensitive. facial washes, keep skin clean, oil of evening primrose tablets good for skin vitamin e, coca butter and finally almond oil takes away scarring. don't use any make up for a while at least when at work at home keep it clear.
Reply:Suddenly plastic surgery came to mind but that can be expensive. One answer is obvious. Stop picking! If you have already stopped and there's some scarring, maybe you can speak to your doctor about the problem and maybe he can give you some samples of some cream. I sorta have the same problem so that's what I can think of.
Reply:well u need a psychiatric councellar who would make u realise there is nothing wrong wt ur body

n what ever scars u hv can be corrected wt laser
Reply:if you rub vitamin E (in oil form) into your skin it will minimise the scarring but im not sure if anything can get rid of them totally. The vit.E will certainly help though.
Reply:I hear Mederma is very good for old scars. You can buy at any local drugstore over the counter.
Reply:Yes, microderma will work, but only if your scarring is mild. severe scarring can only be cured by laser resurfacing, deep chemical peels or dermabrasion (all three pretty invasive procedures, with pain and lots of money involved).

After 6-10 microderma sessions (and I'm talking about professional treatments, not at home kits), you will see your scars fading and a much fresher appearance coming to light. you will love it, i'm sure. i know i do...

Good luck.
Reply:They have a special cream for scaring called maderma or a cheaper version is scare zone.I have had simular scaring amd it is working it takes awhile for results, but it does eventually make scars less visable.

Thyroid disorder or depression ??

When weather is around 12 (C) degree

my body temp is 35(C) in the morning,

cold intolerance and need to wear alot... of clothes.

bluish Fingernails and will be better after lunch/dinner or shower.

I cannot concentrate on my work and feel tired all the time.

And I have depression and dry skin, all seems to be thyroid disorder.

Will I get thyroid disorder because I have depression?

or I get depression because I have thyoid discorder

or it is something else?

I will check with my doctor, but can you give me some advice? thanks.

Thyroid disorder or depression ??
It could be signs of poor circulation as well. To check your thyroid your doctor will do a simple blood test. You are right though, those are signs of an under active tyroid or Hoshimoto's disease as it is known as. I have been diagnosed with so I think you do need to see your doctor and either rule it in or rule it out. You have no power over it til you know.
Reply:I have BOTH problems. You sound like you are Anemic. get some blood work done if you are concerned, and see your doctor about this. Your health is more important than to take advise in YA on this. Only a doctor will help you and tell you what the problem is.
Reply:Get a thyroid blood test to see if hypoactive thyroid...bluish fingernails could be cold from a hypoactive thyroid maybe... or maybe Raynaud's syndrome...or maybe a lung disorder where you are not getting enough oxygen in your lungs to the hands (circulation)...or poor circulation ...or anemic...or heart disorder leading to poor circulation...or just need gloves in winter and cold environment..

I don't know about the depression..it is possible since your metabolism would be low with low thyroid, that you could be depressed? or maybe because it is winter (seasonal affected disorder SAD) or some other reason..

check with your doctor...you can google hypoactive thyroid or hypothyroidism and see what you get.
Reply:Depression is a sign of hypothyroidism. Your other symptoms sound like it as well. To find out get a morning TSH, Free T4, Free T3, and an antibody test. TSH should be under 2.0.

Most who have a throid problem and suffer from depression do better on a thyroid med containing both T4 and T3.

Bones,muscles, and skin homework help!?
Ok Well I am not a doctor but did go to med school as an emt. Its been a long time though so take my answers with a grain of salt.

27. I think the word here is cartilage.(check spelling) It helps keep them in place and sort of acts as a smooth lining.

28. Try web md because I have no idea on this one.

29. The skin has sweat glands that allow sweat to go thru the pours of your skin and the sweat then acts as a swamp cooler sort of so as air passes over the wet skin it cools the body.

30. Technically yes. They have continued bone marrow and that helps produce white blood cells. They also produce red blood cells I believe which makes blood. These white cells help fight infections in the body. Again hope this helps as I am no doctor but I think this is right.

Obsessive compulsive disorder?

Has any one heard of obsessive compulsive disorder in the form of skin picking? has anyone had to deal with it? if so how did you deal with it?

Obsessive compulsive disorder?
I have OCD, and i found that simply talking through or writing down whatever is bothering you is the best way to deal with it. As far as skin picking i am not sure, but the best advise is that u talk to a friendly expert. If writing down or talking about what is bothering or stressing u out does not help then, u can be perscribed medication. Most of all dont worry, many ppl have OCD and each person is capable of coping with it.
Reply:Any OCD should be treated by a doctor/therapist. Skin picking sounds like more of a nervous habit, maybe anxiety disorder, also to be addressed by a doctor or therapist.
Reply:Well, I have OCD, but no I don't pick my skin, In my case, I have to hide from random cars everytime they pass by, and sometimes I have to lift my legs up for 5 seconds when I'm siting down for no reason, um..sometimes I have to sit up and sit back down like five times, just for no reason. Weird huh?
Reply:every person in the world had COD but some have a bigger case than other. For example when I go to set my alarm clock I have to check 30 to 40 times before I can go to sleep. Also know if someone taken anything from my room.

Rare disorder help!!!!!?

There is a disease/disorder where a person's skin is unable to repair itself after exposure to the sun, or any kind of light that can cause skin damage.I know that it's not porphyria, photosensitivity or albinism, but the name of this condition escapes me.Help?

Rare disorder help!!!!!?
The rare disorder you are talking about is called : Xeroderma Pigmentosum. The movie : The Others, with Nicole Kidman, is a thriller that has a family dealing with the disorder. Her two kids have it. It is a very good movie, especially if you can get a hold of the Collector's Series. On it, you will find a documentary, of an actual family dealing with the disorder.
Reply:xeroderma pigmentosum 100% check it out.
Reply:It was in a Dean Koontz, Fear Nothing.
Reply:how about....ummm get over it. ya.
Reply:It is called Xeroderma pigmentosum, type 1.

Do eating disorders make your skin look stressed or not the same?

Yes. Without proper nutrition your skin will suffer just as much as the rest of your bodily organs.

Do eating disorders make your skin look stressed or not the same?
yes
Reply:stressed because you are not getting full nutrients and minerals into it i think
Reply:yes,sometimes older ,darker circles.pale
Reply:Most definitely, when you have eating disorders, your body is not getting the adequate and the right nutrition. In severe cases, you not only end up with body functions that cannot operate normally but also with a skin appearance that does not look healthy.
Reply:eating disorders can really put a lot of stress on your skin. you may be dull, pale and with dark circles because you are not getting the proper nutrition. You also may notice your facial hair will get thicker as a defense by your body. if you are bulimic your jouls will become engorged. your teeth tend to rot and you lose bone and muscle mass. if you have a eating disorder get help before it's too late there is help.

Biting skin off my lips and inside of my mouth??

I do it all the time ... I also bite my nails which turned out to be a disorder ... is biting the skin on my lips and in my mouth some kind of disorder and is there any way to stop?

Biting skin off my lips and inside of my mouth??
Um if you cant stop and have tried you could just have a bad habit or something. Seems like nowadays everything is some kind of disorder. I wouldn't probably stress it too much unless you really do want to stop and can't then maybe I would advise you to seek some kind of medical help or opinions
Reply:If you can't stop the behavior, I'd say it's evidence of an anxiety disorder. Whatever the cause, it must result in some pain. Why don't you seek treatment?
Reply:get some lip balm
Reply:Any sort of compulsive behavior warrants treatment. See your doctor.
Reply:It's surely some kind of disorder related to anxiety. You must learn how to control yourself. Try to relax and go see a doctor.
Reply:I do the same thing! I think it might have something to do with anxiety. I notice that I usually only do it when I am really stressed and I normally won't notice that I have done it until much later.
Reply:This behavior of yours definately sounds like an anxiety provoked reaction of some sort. Having worked in the dental field for over 20 years I've seen many people chew their lips and bite the inside of their mouth. Ninety nine percent of the time it's due to the person being under stress, feeling anxious and nervous and responding to those feelings by chewing on their lips and the inside of their mouth. Let me tell you something that I think you may find interesting and may in a backward sort of way help. You said that you bite your nails also, right? Well, your hands, fingers and nails are ussually filled with bacteria and germs, then you are putting them in your mouth which has open sores both on the lips and the inside of your cheeks. This is a perfect set up for catching God knows what.....strep throat, a virus, the flu, a sinus infection.......and the list goes on. Plus, you could end up with a mouth or lip infecton which could be painful and may need a biopsy if it doesn't heal up in a reasonable amount of time. I don't mean to scare you I'm just pointing out some facts. Here's some ideas to help you quit your biting. First of all try to address whatever is causing you all the anxiety in the first place. Perhaps a therapist may be helpful. Next, try chewing gum and keeping unflavored lip moistuizer on your lips as often as possible. That way they won't be as cracked and dry and have as many little places to bite and rip off. The gum will keep your mouth busy. Also, there are nailpolishes that tase bad made especially for people who want to stop biting there nails. If your cuticles are dry and you like to chew on them also then try to keep your hands and fingers well mousturized. Also if you see how lovely your nails can look without them being chewed up that sometimes makes a difference in poeples behavior. If you are still having problems or until you get some sort of a grip on the situation I suggest that you keep your hands very clean and rinse your mouth with a mild mouthwash several times a day. At least this will help reduce the risk of you picking up a nasty bug and getting sick. I wish you the best. Good Luck
Reply:I actually bite my nails and bite skin off the inside of my mouth too. I do it whenever i'm bored/nervous. One of my health teachers told me once that the frequent trauma to the sensitive mouth tissue could actually increase the risk for mouth cancer later on in life, so i'm trying to stop it. Start chewing gum, or sucking on lolli-pops----move your mouth fixation to something a little bit healthier!
Reply:I don't know what to tell you, but I think you should see a Dr. good luck
