They said a Vet told them to do it for their dogs, has anyone heard this?
Someone told me it was safe to put Vicks Vapor Rub on my dogs for their skin disorder?
Honestly that the first time I've heard this one. No I would not put it on my dog for anything. Vick's is a mixture of Vaseline and menthol eucalyptus.
Eucalupus is toxic to dogs so no don't do it!
Reply:No, can't imagine it would help. But other than ruining his sense of smell I suppose it can't hurt. Have you asked your vet about it.
Reply:unless your vet told you that I wouldn't do it...
Reply:This sorta sounds like a game of "telephone". Ask your OWN vet personally what they'd recommend as a solution for the problem.
Reply:DON'T DO IT. I don't know about it's safety but I do know that their fur will be greasy for weeks on end!!! My daughter put that on our dog and it took months of washing with dishsoap (it had to be dishsoap nothing else would work) before his coat went back to normal.
Reply:I wouldn't until you speak to your vet.
Reply:I've never heard of it. I wouldn't take advice from anyone without checking with your own Vet first! Some things suggested could be downright dangerous to dogs. Have you ever rubbed your eyes after applying some Vicks to your own skin? Imagine your dogs rubbing against each other and getting that stuff in their eyes, and that's just for starters..
Reply:If the skin disorders are different ones, I wouldnt reccomend it. It could irritate his skin more, ask your vet.
Reply:Do not use any human meds on animals unless you hear it directly from your vet. Many are quite harmful. I was told I could use childrens benedryl, but your vet knows your pet and it is the most responsible thing you can do.
Reply:no dont do it! it is not safe and will harm your dog. You will have a sticky mess and he will lick it. It is poison and you will end up on here saying that your dog is sick and throwing up and has diareha and wont eat and lays around all day and everyone will say take him to the VET asap. and you will sit their and wonder why everyone is saying that.
DONT give your dog vicks on his skin. He will get sick.
Talk to your Vet about the skin issue. Unless your friend is a VET, even then I would not ask him I would find another VET.
Good luck
Reply:for the sake of your dog please go to vet. you don't know what the problem is and you may do more harm than good.
Reply:Nope never heard of that one.. That's why it's best to take your own dog to your own vet and get things diagnosed.. Listening to people you don't know, obviously gets you bad advice.
