someone I know thinks Metronidazole 1% Gel worked for her - it took a few years though. Diet plays a part, tannin rich drinks, red wine, brandy have a reputation for aggravating the condition

Would you date/marry someone with a severe skin disorder?

The skin disorder causes the person to be wrapped in bandages on the arms, legs, and torso. To cover raw wounds and blisters. They often use a wheelchair in public, but can also walk. The disorder causes severe scarring, and loss of hand function. This person can have sex, and is fairly independent, but may have a 'unique' way of accomplishing things.

disappends..is it congicous..

really you look on the inside of a person

not the outside...

looks shouldn`t matter it is what is on the inside of a person...

that is what makes a person special...
Reply:Ewww. Is it contagious? Will you get slimmed if you touch them?
Reply:Well the skin disorder is not something that you should be worrying about i think that if that makes you subconsious then you shouldnt be with them. but just remember it is what is on the inside that counts
Reply:not unless I like that person enough to date
Reply:ok i know this guy who has a severe skin disorder , and he cant sweat and if he runs he "overheats" and would die. Dont say "that poor guy wont even be able to have sex" k he is an @$$hole about it and he flakes. he literally can peal off his skin, and he eats it. He even took some of his flakes and threw them at me. He is gray because of all of his skin flakes and i wouldnt imagine he will ever kiss anybody. If the guy you are talking about is like that, then no i would never marry a person like that. i mean imagine sex (rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrip) if that doesnt make you shiver than i dont know wut will
Reply:sorry but for whatever reason this just doesn't turn me on... i would run like hell...

is this something that came on after you started seeing this person or is this how you found them?
Reply:Maybe it depends on their personality. My guess, though, is that the person would be at a severe disadvantage, dating-wise. Usually how it works out is that there's somebody else who's disabled or "undesirable" who can understand that person, and the two get along and have companionship.

Incidentally, I've had acne problems and scarring since age 14. No female has ever agreed to date me. Other than my looks, I'm a normal, involved, decent, likable person. I've found that by having skin problems and not being stunning-looking, my "comparative advantage," or best use of time, is in non-dating areas of life.

I need to know the name of a skin disorder caused by exposure to sunlight?

It makes your skin break out in what looks like ringworm, but it isn't. My son was diagnosed with this skin disorder several years ago, and I can't remember the name. Can anyone help me?

I believe that you are talking about Porphyria, also known as the "vampire disease". There was a book written by a woman that had it that may help you understand it better. The title was "Porphyria the Woman Who Has the "Vampire" Disease" (ISBN 0882821563) by Tammy Evans. (Listings start at $7.95 on abebooks---refer second to link)

I have a question about a not very common skin disorder...?

It consists of very red, constantly flaking skin. The skin on the person's hands is rough and crackily like rhino hide and the CONSTANT flaking is all over everything, because the skin disorder/condition effects the entire body. However, the people who suffer from this heal VERY quickly. After a day or two, a cut on their finger/arm/leg/etc is completely gone with no sign that it was even there. I want to find out the technical term for it. Someone I know has it and she told me the name, it's sort of complex. PLEASE, does anyone know the answer to this? I THINK she treats it with lotions or oils everyday, she can't wear perfumes and she gets sunburns very quickly and easily, she said she got 3rd degree sunburn on her ankles from sitting under an umbrella on the beach and her ankles being exposed to the sun for less than an hour. Her skin is rather fragile. Please help! I want to find out more about this so that I can look for things to help her. Thank you.

It might be scleroderma (Latin for "hard skin"), which is an autoimmune disease (one where the body attacks part of itself). I have included two links so you can decide for yourself if that's what she has.

I think I have a skin disorder?

I had a brest reduction to which I found out the hard way that I was allergic to sutures. (dissolvable stitches) I also got my belly button pierced and I had to take it out because I had the same allergic reaction. I can only wear real gold in my ears, and I have to take the ear rings out after a certain amount of time, because my ears will start to get infected. I think I have a some kind of skin disorder, but I can't find anything anywhere about it. Does anyone have any ideas?

For Vets - Is there a Feline skin disorder that can be transmitted to humans?

I need to know if cats can have a skin disorder that can be passed on to humans? I have a cat that is always scratching. He even has scabs on a small area where he has licked and or bitten. I have used shampoo, cream and even a spray for this on him (I don't have money to take him to the vet right now. I have to wait at least two more weeks.) My skin is extremely itchy especially if I get a cat hair on me. I have used creams, oatmeal soaks, etc. But nothing! I have been taking allergy medications to aleviate the discomfort. I've had cats all my life and never dealt with this problem can anyone give me any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your help.

They pretty well covered it.

Mange, skin mites, ringworm. ALL are treatable, but to treat it effectively you'll need a vet to check which one your cat has.

Ringworm will show up as blobby stuff on your skin, as a ring, as a dry scaly patch. If you don't have that, it's not ringworm on you.

Do you get red bumps? Is the skin on those areas of you dry? Weeping?

Has the cat gotten into any chemicals that both of you are allergic to? Any pesticides? Topicals? You have to eliminate those possibilities too.
Reply:I'm not a vet but there was a story in the news just this week about a family taking in a stray cat and they all caught ringworm from the cat. They had pictures and it was pretty gross looking.
Reply:Ringowrm is the most common skin infection that can be transmitted to humands from any type of animal. What you can do to see if she has it is put her in a dark room under a black light and if a spot on her starts to glow yellow or green...basically only a spot, not her whole coat, then you know she has it. If she does you can try an OTC ointment froma petstore for her, but you would have to see a doctor to get something. Hope this helps. Otherwise you still should take her to the vet.
Reply:Any fungus (ringworm), or bacteria can be passed to a human. It isn't likely to happen as long as you are clean.

Toxoplasmosis can also be transfered to humans, but that is not a skin irritation.
Reply:I'm not a vet, but does the cat have ringworm? It's not a worm but a fungus. Treat the cat and yourself if this is the case.

My long-haired collie has developed skin disorder-dried spots of skin that leave open surfaces-he doesn`t itch

He`s 3 yrs. Treated this with anti-biotics and medicated shampoo, which greatly helped, yet I still notice occasional quarter-size area of raised dry skin-it can be rubbed off which leaves an open sore. He doesn`t itch, yet I`m concerned that he is susceptable to other disease from these open areas. Anyone with a collie ever heard of such a skin disorder?

I agree that it could be a food allergy, and allergy to corn is certainly possible. Most good dog foods have so many ingredients nowadays (corn, eggs, cottage cheese, carrots, chicken, etc etc) it may not be possible to figure out what he is allergic to.

Look into Natural Balance dog foods, carried at Petco and other places. Each dog food is formulated with only a single carbohydrate source and a single protein source that is not found in most other dog foods, so it is unlikely that your dog has ever been exposed to it before and would not likely be allergic. My dog has done well on the Duck and Potato formula for a year and a half after he got allergic to Innova.
Reply:You need a dog food that "does not" contain any form of corn. We used a dog food with a rice base.
